I wish you could be here
to sleep in my bed with me.
Your body providing that comfort,
warmth and security I need
during these cold nights
where I can only shiver.
My indigo blanket with
it’s moon and stars
is just a fragile shield from
these bitter frigid times
when no one can hold me.
My bed is no sanctuary,
nor freedom from stress.
It is a reminder
of what I have done
what I must do
and things I must complete.
This bed is no place of peace.
Books and
folders and
papers, all the clutter of my mind
lay before me.
I’d rather see you on my cloud print pillow,
instead of my library books
all about Epicurus,
another reminder that
I cannot be at peace.
Before I close my eyes,
your picture smiles at me
from it’s place on the wall
and that’s when I know.
You are with me,
I hold you in my heart.

This will be my last submission for a while. I have some family emergencies to deal with, but I wanted to post this a few weeks ago, when I wrote it.

Happy Holidays.
I'm off.
